sonia sotomayor is puerto rican , and will render future controversial judgements on cases according to the direct influence of her ethnically biased opinion rather than on interpretation of constitutional law ….she’s opinionated… she’s liberal….she’s minority oriented… read her past opinions !!
her appointment hearings begin on monday , before a democratically controlled congress.. nominated by a most liberal democratic president ever , promoted and supported by politically correct advocates of gay rights , pro-choice , feminists , and affirmative action proponents….
my question as a conservative white guy with a job , is… what could she ever do as a supreme court justice to create a level playing field for the average employed conservative american white male … unaffiliated with any special interest group…( the REAL modern american tax-paying minority)…
she’ll be another liberal in a fraternity of liberals with life time appointments and benefits…. pretty darn “affirmative action” on her behalf…. a politacally correct term for a life-long -term of reverse discrimination….
my question as a conservative white gal with a job , is… what could she ever do as a supreme court justice to create a level playing field for the average employed conservative american white female … unaffiliated with any special interest group…( the REAL modern american tax-paying minority)…
Right there with you Larry. Just watching this country go to hell in a handbasket at a very rapid rate….
Larry you found the answer. You are now the minority! Press one for english, so that you may speak with someone from India.
get over it
It’s just awful, isn’t it?? All the gays are mad at “the most liberal democratic president ever” because HIS justice department argued before the Supreme Court in favor of traditional marriage (which was sustained). That Puerto Rican woman who grew up in the projects and has consistently shown empathy for poor working people (an unusual perspective for a Federal judge — most of whom have never been poor or working) was actually appointed to the Federal bench by a Republican President. And I could go on … but I won’t. I’ll just stand by for the name-calling to begin.
so nuther brother , despite being a federal employee for most of your adult life , you actually favor the idea of affirmative empathetic action… ?….. i’m surprised !
When you see — first-hand — what’s happened to some people for absolutely no reason other than they’re a member of a different “tribe” or have skin of a different color, it does have a way of changing your perspective. This is not about “compensating” people for what happened to their forebears 150 years ago. I do not — and never have — subscribed to the notion that some folks are owed a place at the head of the line because of some mistreatment suffered by their ancestors. And I’m really turned off by the notion that citizenship can be hyphenated. African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Asian-Americans, Irish-Americans and the like are all bogus labels. Once you’re here … you’re here! You are an American … period. But I do think all Americans are entitled to a fair shake and a level playing field.
And as long as I’m on a rant, let me add that the most pernicious form of discrimination in America isn’t racial or cultural — it’s financial. Too many people are condemned to a life of limited options and opportunity because they’re poor. That’s why access to quality public education, decent health care, security in old age, etc. are so important. My fear isn’t about becoming a socialist nation, or a fascist one — it’s that we’re becoming a nation of “have’s” and “have not’s” with life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness being meted out on the basis of one’s ability to pay for it. And here’s just one man’s view on another of those inflammatory issue: did you know that the rate of abortion in America rises and falls according to the availability of affordable child care?? That suggests to me that abortion is more of an economic issue that a moral one.
